Graffiti district

 

This site is an open-air gallery, it is located in the industrial sector, in the town of Puente Aranda de Bogotá, thanks to an idea many years ago and it materialized in 2016.

Grafiti District is one of the art fairs that are held periodically in the city and that bring together, with public and private support, from renowned gallery owners worldwide, to unsuspecting passers-by who are suddenly immersed in a city in which for a week you see, feel and breathe creativity.

In this place gray walls and lifeless streets were transformed into joy. Where before the passage of time had left its gray tone, new multicolored landscapes are now appreciated with brilliance.

This is the current appearance of the streets of Bogotá, thanks to national and international artists transforming with graffiti the deepest desires of communities eager to express themselves, who find in the walls of their neighborhoods a means to raise their voices.

It is a plan that is based on a tour of more than 70 murals, painted by more than 85 national and international artists.

It was in scenarios such as 26th Street where large-format murals began to be allowed in 2015, and the District Committee for the Responsible Practice of Graffiti was formally created, which allowed the regulation of this activity, and thanks to this, today it is agreed with the district entities what murals they want to paint in Bogotá and the permits to do so are managed.

One of the great advances in Public Policy was the City of Bogotá Urban Art Scholarship. La Candelaria, Suba, Rafael Uribe Uribe and Santa Fe are some of the towns that have benefited from this initiative, along with spaces such as the bus stops around the Simón Bolívar Metropolitan Park, during the Hip Hop Festival at the Park, three facades in the Historic Center of the city, four more squares in zonal parks, among other locations.

Bogotá is a canvas in constant transformation, a painting that changes and is renewed every year, because in the capital the streets tell stories, it is up to us to let them speak.
